My Name is Grace Birungi, I am passion fruit farmer on Butoro Island in Kamengo subcounty in Mpigi District
Passion fruit farming a very lucrative business that I would never compare any other farming venture. The fruits have un satisfiable demand thus easy to market. However, the plant is very susceptible to sucking pests and therefore viral diseases including mosaics and woodiness which are very hard to treat. If not well managed, mosaics and woodiness can lead to over 75% loss in fruit yield. Farming with the agronomists from Agro and more helps me to manage the pests by selecting and alternating for me effective insecticides to minimize the pest tolerance. Because of this, I have expanded my orchard from half acre to now one full acre.
My name is Bogere Geofrey a ginger from Butambala District. My family and I rely on this blessed crop ginger, for our livelihood. I have built my house, married my wife, and now educating my children from this enterprise. During Covid 19, the demand for the crop went up high due to its health attributes. While this was a good thing, it only lasted a short while before the business got Infiltrated by middlemen who bought our harvests at peanut. When I started sourcing my inputs from Agro and more outlet in gombe town council, I was registered in the ginger producer group which brings us together as ginger farmers from the region under the supervision of agro and more ltd. Now, I no longer sale my ginger produce as an individual but rather as a group to Khamisa Foods Ltd for export. Because of this, we are able to get better returns from our harvests than when we sold to middle men.
My name is Beatrice, a widow and proud mother of two daughters. I am a farmer in Kibibi Village of Butambala district. For a long time my cabbages made small heads and were frequently attacked by pests and diseases. This was due to the poor seeds I always selected. Because of this our income was very poor.
In 2021 I joined Agro and more Ltd after they opened a branch in Kibibi my home village. They have since transformed our farming significantly They guide me in selection of all my inputs including seeds. Their inputs are affordable and sometimes I buy in bulk, they deliver to my door step so I don’t have to incur transport costs. They also send me their agronomist to demonstrate certain skills and practices or, to monitor the performance of the inputs supplied. When our harvest is due, they link us to buyers of our cabbages from Kampala City who offer good prices. I am now confident my daughters shall finish school, I have to expand my acreage.
